Happy Summer, Everyone!
Dear Hamilton Community,
Now that the students have completed their year and the staff have mostly left for the summer, I find myself sitting at my desk writing this newsletter and trying to find the words to fully encapsulate this school year. It’s very challenging. I can talk about the pandemic and how it forced us to operate the school in a completely different way and follow so may protocols and health and safety guidelines. I can talk about the myriad of unexpected events which took place such as school closures due to power outages, poor air quality, heavy snowfall, or excessive heat. I can talk about the day our school went on a Hold & Secure due to an emergency in the community. I can talk about the constant construction and with the noise, the dust and the traffic issues.
But what I will really take from this year is how proud I have been of this school community to face all these obstacles while continuing to work, learn and carry on with life. I will remember the countless acts of kindness I have witnessed this year and the personal growth I have seen in our students. I will remember the laughter of our staff and students and the genuine care people have shown for one another. I will remember our grade 7 students and how they completed their final year at Hamilton on such a positive note. I will remember the good times.
So, as you embark on your summer holidays, I want to wish you the best of times. I hope you will have lots of opportunities to get together with family and friends you may not have seen much this year. I hope you will find times to enjoy the good weather at the beach, at a lake, in the forest, at the local park or in your own back yard. I hope you find the time to rest, relax, rejuvenate, and finally enjoy some good times. We deserve it. Cheers!
There are so many people to thank this year for a job well done under challenging and unique circumstances.
I would like to thank our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) led by the executive of Angie Liu, Lorita Tang, Mary Ann Balais, Nicole Voglmaier and Juliana Yim for their thoughtful and consistent support of the school.
I would like to thank our Hamilton Staff who so considerately educated and cared for the children here at the school.
I would like to thank our students for their resiliency, helpfulness, kindness for each and the smiles on their faces, even when they were covered by masks. : )
I would like to thank all of you parents who respected and followed all the rules we were required to have in place, for being so easy to work with and for nurturing your children so well.
And I would personally like to thank my office team of Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Chan and Mrs. Ashby for keeping things running, keeping me organized and providing a lot of laughs along the way.
Take care, everyone, and have a wonderful summer!
