Book Club Collaboration

As a staff we knew we needed to build our repertoire and engage in our own learning to help best serve our students in developing their literacy skills for our school focus this year.  We decided to use part of our Pro-D days throughout the year to engage in learning using book club groups.  These groups would look at different topics that were specifically planned to not just be by a grade group but by interest and desired areas of growth.  All of the groups planned to read, try, investigate, collaborate, inquire, and improve.  Literacy and engagement in literacy always being the thread.  For example, our group that decided to focus on Math included teachers spanning K-7, and were interested in common language and ways to knowing that transferred throughout the grade.  The more social emotional groups looked at how to engage disengaged students and techniques to try to engage and build resiliency.  Specific writing and reading techniques were also investigated, lesson plans shared, buddy classes trying things together.  It has been an exciting start to our journey and we are excited to see what we learn along the way.
